Should Vegas get SASE?
Las Vegas has been hit hard by the COVID-19 global pandemic; and the path ahead seems like an uphill climb. A recent news’ report about changes being made / considered as a part of phased reopening plans included:
- Limiting three seats to one side of a table game (that’s only three seated players for most games that have a semicircular table with the dealer on on side; and three players per side on a game like craps)
- Social distancing measures in place to limit onlookers for such games past six feet from the table
- Turning off alternate slot machines and removing the seat(s) in front of such (turned off) slot machines to enforce social distancing between machines
While I’m glad that plans are being considered to reopen one of my favorite places on the planet; I’m not sure if one could recreate a casino atmosphere without thronging onlookers encouraging players towards wins; without nightclubs spilling at the seams and without an epic line at the (epic) buffet. The crowds love the casinos, the casinos love the crowds. That’s Las Vegas.
Let’s try to thread this needle. Can one replicate the Las Vegas experience without the crowds? Unlikely. Can one replicate the gaming experience without being physically present inside a Las Vegas casino? Absolutely. What if we could….implement a Secure Access Secure Edge service that allowed anyone to access Las Vegas casino gaming resources; and pipe all that gaming action into every locked-down living room? It could come complete with a food / drink-service delivery from a local provider. After age verification and every other relevant regulatory check, of course.
