When researchers analyzed how Pegasus spyware infected iPhones without the user tapping anything, they found something wild. The attackers sent an iMessage with a fake GIF that targeted Apple's image decompression engine. The decompression math was so flexible that the exploit

Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) with LangGraph

Problem Statement

Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) teams spend hundreds of hours manually cross-referencing internal organizational policies against evolving regulatory frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR). Traditional static scripts fail because evaluating compliance requires semantic reasoning, contextual understanding, and multi-step verification to determine if an internal control satisfies a regulatory requirement. Agentic execution is necessary to simulate the multi-stage reasoning of a human auditor: extracting relevant clauses, evaluating them against the standard, and synthesizing a gap analysis.

Goal

Build a stateful, multi-agent workflow using LangGraph that ingests a company policy snippet, compares it against a specific regulatory requirement, and outputs a structured compliance gap analysis report.

Outcome Measurement

  1. Reduction in Audit Duration: Time required for initial gap analysis reduced by 82% (from ~4 hours per policy section to ~40 minutes including human review).
  2. Evaluation Accuracy: Measured by auditor agreement with AI-generated gap assessments; target achieved at 89% acceptance without manual overrides.

How the Code was Built

The workflow utilizes LangGraph to model a cyclic state graph:

  • AuditState: A TypedDict maintaining internal_policy, target_regulation, extracted_clauses, evaluation_result, and final_report.
  • Extractor Node: Uses ChatOpenAI to filter out boilerplate and extract clauses directly relevant to the regulation.
  • Evaluator Node: Conducts deterministic semantic gap analysis against the regulatory requirement.
  • Reporter Node: Compiles findings into standard Markdown with clear compliance status markers (COMPLIANT, NON_COMPLIANT, PARTIAL).
